The body of the iconic Sophie hat is a wheat straw braid in its natural color. The straw, made using a specific antique sewing machine called Anita, is naturally dried under the sun before being weaved. The making of the hat starts with a very fine braid of woven straw sewed as a snail starting from the center of the crown, following the line of the sides, and descending on the brim in a unique and continuous straw vortex. The inner band is sewn, the vintage ribbon is added, and the hat is ready for the final steps: embellishments, stitching, final inspection, and packaging - all completed by hand. This is the art of hat-making!
